National Lipid Day is observed Worldwide on 10th May every year and this year it falls on Friday. It’s a day to create awareness of dyslipidemia. 

National Lipid Day helps raise awareness for this disease and its risk factors, allowing for the early detection and management of the disease. This can help improve outcomes and reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases associated with dyslipidemia. This is particularly more relevant and rampant in Indian / South Asian Population where Residual Risk Remains high in spite of optimal treatment as per Western Guidelines.
 
Dyslipidemia is characterized by abnormal levels of plasma cholesterol or triglycerides in the blood, which significantly increases a person’s risk of developing cardiovascular disease. High lipid levels contribute to the formation of atherosclerosis, a condition characterized by the accumulation of fatty deposits in the arterial walls, leading to the narrowing and hardening of the arteries. This condition restricts blood flow to the heart and other organs, increasing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and peripheral artery disease This is also called as ASCVD (Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease. Furthermore, elevated lipid levels are associated with pancreatitis and metabolic syndrome. 
 
LIPID ASSOCIATION OF INDIA (LAI) has become the Torch bearer in creating awareness amongst patients and their treating physicians in India and abroad especially USA/ Europe/ Asia Pacific and SAARC countries which have sizeable populations of Indian ancestry.  Conceptualized by Dr. Raman Puri DM MD over a decade ago, also called as Father of Lipidology in India by the American Association of Cardiologists of Indian Origin (AACIO). AACIO has sought affiliation with LAI. 
LAI has been updating its knowledge base with input from various dedicated Cardiologists/ Physicians from LAI -Consensus-I to recently released Consensus IV. LAI is being quoted in various lipidology Platforms and International Journals. LAI has been holding regular Local/ National / International meetings and is very much in demand.
 
All LAI members are requested to actively participate on 10 May 2024 in their Hometowns by holding Camps, Free Cholesterol and Medical checkup for general population and patients. Besides digital marketing and lectures, local write up and advertisement in Newspapers. Could take pharma / Industry support.
 
In evening of 10th May, HQ- LAI has planned a Hybrid Meeting with webcast in 50 cities, 30 metro towns & 50 local panelists with expected 2000+ audience.
 
All LAI members are requested to send their suggestions, improvise as per their local requirements, and make it a Super Grand Success. I would be there to help along with entire LAI team 24/7.
